ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Kolkata Centre, in collaboration with KVK, Chomi, Kurung Kumey, Arunachal Pradesh, organized a three-day skilled development training program on “Prawn/Fish Pickle Preparation, Packaging, and Quality” at Koloriang from February 4–6, 2025, under the TSP scheme.

The program aimed to provide participants with insights into the opportunities for developing specialized products from fish and prawns, such as pickles. Hands-on demonstrations were conducted on the preparation of pickles using fresh fish and dry prawns. Trainees were also educated on the best packaging materials for such products. Dr. N.C. Tok, Head of KVK, Chomi, emphasized the potential for preparing shelf-stable fish products, like pickles, from local river fish and the market opportunities available for such products. The training was coordinated by Dr. H. Mandakini Devi, Scientist, and Dr. Sujata Sahoo, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIFE, Kolkata Centre. To support self-learning, inputs such as dry prawns, fish, and necessary ingredients were distributed to the participants. The program saw active participation from 25 rural residents of Koloriang. A training booklet, “Prawn/Fish Pickle Preparation, Packaging, and Quality Control,” was also released during the event.
