ICAR-CIFE is a key participant of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA), which is a nationwide collaborative effort of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, GoI, to bridge the gap between farmers’ knowledge and modern agricultural practices. It aims to directly engage with approximately 1.5 crore farmers across 700 districts in the country. The programme started on 29th May and will run up to 12th June 2025, reaching farming communities with the help of over 2000 scientist groups. On 28th May 2025, Dr. N. P. Sahu, Director, ICAR-CIFE flagged off the group of twenty-seven ICAR-CIFE scientists who are currently travelling to villages of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal with teams of scientists from KVKs, ATARIs and other institutes of ICAR to disseminate aquaculture techniques to farmers to improve production and rural livelihoods. In Andhra Pradesh, the focus is on villages of Kakinada. In Gujarat, the programme covers Tapi, Vadodara, Valsad, and Navsari districts. In Maharashtra, villages in Ratnagiri, Raigad, Palghar, and Sindhudurg districts are being covered. In West Bengal, CIFE scientists are covering Kolkata, Howrah, Murshidabad, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, and South 24 Parganas districts. This extensive outreach is designed to promote agricultural innovations and facilitate direct interactions with farmers, enabling them to adopt new technologies and government schemes effectively. The programme will also help collect feedback from farmers for future research and innovations.
