The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur of Punjab Agricultural University organized a one-day training programme under the able leadership of Dr Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Training), KVK Sangrur for farmers at its campus to enhance their knowledge and skills about the Cultivation of Tar-Watter Direct Seeded Rice (DSR). The training, aimed at improving DSR management practices, witnessed an active participation of 40 farmers and field assistants.
Dr. Sunil Kumar, Assistant Professor (FMPE), highlighted the importance of proper field preparation and the use of advanced machinery for DSR. He emphasized how the right tools can significantly increase efficiency and yield in DSR farming.
Dr. Rukinderpreet Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) discussed about efficient weed and nutrient management practices essential for successful cultivation of DSR. He stressed on timely and appropriate interventions for weed management to minimize crop competition and ensure optimal growth.
In the final session, Dr. Gurbir Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) provided valuable insights on managing pests and diseases in paddy and DSR crops. She discussed integrated pest management strategies and the importance of timely disease detection to safeguard crops.
The training was well-received, with farmers gaining valuable skills and knowledge to improve productivity and sustainability in DSR cultivation. The event was part of PAU-KVK, Sangrur’s ongoing efforts to support farmers in adoption of DSR for saving of precious water and labour resources.
Lucky Seed drill for sowing of DSR was demonstrated and it’s proper working was explained.
