A one-day training camp on garlic cultivation, maintenance, storage and processing was organized on 13.01.2025 at village Melak Kang under the project being run by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Budh Singh Wala, Moga, an institution of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, with the financial assistance of NABARD Department, on garlic cultivation and processing.
NABARD A. G. M. Madam Savita Singh and Lead District Manager Shri Chiranjeev Singh attended this camp as special guests.
Associate Director (Training) K. V. K Budh Singh Wala Moga, Dr. Amandeep Singh Brar, Assistant Professor (Processing and Food Engineering) Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Assistant Professor (Vegetables) Dr. Prerna Thakur, Assistant Professor (Animal Science) Dr. Prabhjot Kaur attended this camp. Dr. Prerna Thakur shared information about garlic cultivation with the farmer heroes. Dr. Ramandeep Kaur during her lecture explained about the post-harvest storage, storage and processing techniques of garlic and how farmers can increase their income by adopting these techniques and linking them with marketing. Dr. Prabhjot Kaur shared information about preparing homemade feed for animals and prevention of diseases.
Addressing the farmers, Mrs. Swata Singh informed them about the Agricultural Infrastructure Scheme being run by the government for expansion in the processing sector and also motivated them to take maximum benefit from it. Mr. Chiranjeev Singh shared information with the farmers about the facilities provided by the bank. Associate Director (Training) Dr. Amandeep Singh Brar shared with the farmers the problems faced in crops and the points of seed conservation. He asked the farmers to connect with the Krishi Vigyan Kendra as much as possible. A field visit to the demonstration plots set up during this camp was also conducted. The farmers highly appreciated this camp and asked to organize more such camps for farmers who are working away from traditional wheat and paddy.
