The Punjab Agricultural University – Farm Advisory Service Centre (PAU-FASC), Sangrur, organized an awareness camp at the remote village of Channo to educate farmers on effective strategies for managing pests, weeds, and nutrient deficiencies in wheat crops. The initiative was conducted under the guidance of the Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, to promote sustainable and efficient crop management practices.
Dr Ashok Kumar, District Extension Scientist, addressed the farmers, providing critical insights into managing pink stem borer infestations, recognizing symptoms of nutrient deficiencies, and implementing corrective measures for manganese and zinc deficiencies. He also emphasized the use of potassium nitrate to improve crop health. He addressed farmers’ queries related to soil sampling, effective weedicides, and the application of gypsum and sulphur to improve soil.
As part of the camp, farmers also visited a potato cultivation site featuring varieties like LR and Diamond, which were grown using advanced tissue culture techniques. This experience offered them a glimpse into innovative agricultural practices.
