ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar, organised the first follow-up meeting of the All India State Animal Husbandry Directors Interface Meet-2025 with 26 states and 5 Union territories today.

The Chief Guest Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, Minister of State of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, highlighted ICAR-IVRI’s leadership in One Health activities and stressed the importance of integrated farming and diverse revenue streams. He spoke about the widespread adoption of sex-sorted semen technology, particularly to support indigenous breeds, and encouraged the use of embryo transfer technology (ETT) to enhance livestock quality. With shrinking landholdings reducing reliance on bullocks, he emphasized the practical benefits of sex-sorted semen and its promotion via artificial insemination at the grassroots level. Prof. Baghel also urged the directors to fully implement government schemes for farmers and enhance the country’s animal resources, commending veterinarians for their vital role in nation-building.

Dr Triveni Dutt, Director, ICAR-IVRI, also graced the occasion.

Directors from various State Animal Husbandry Departments discussed challenges related to animal husbandry practices, disease diagnosis, and veterinary capacity building. They proposed several research areas, including the development of a disease-alert system for farmers and diagnostics for emerging diseases like LSD, ASF, FMS, RD, and Gumboro, to enable early detection at the field level. Other areas of interest included alternative feed resources, improved fodder cultivation, and heat-stress management in animals. They also highlighted the need for field-based rapid detection kits for pesticides and herbicides in animal fodder to benefit farmers. The meeting facilitated in-depth discussions on research and training needs.
