The Eastern Regional Station (ERS) Kolkata of ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) and Janani SHG jointly organized a Kishan Gosthi cum Follow-up and Input Distribution Program (IDP) at Balarampur village under Sonarpur block of District South 24-Paraganas, West Bengal on 26th December 2024. The program was organized under Development Action Plan for Scheduled Castes (DAPSC) Scheme. A total of 92 rural women from 4 villages (Balarampur, Bonhooghly, Chiyari and Joykrishnapur) of Sonarpur block and Dr B. Mondal and G. K. Das, Principal Scientists from the ERS, ICAR-IVRI were present in the program. The constitution of the beneficiaries is from 58 future DAPSC cluster groups and 34 new DAPSC beneficiaries. All the beneficiaries belong to the scheduled caste community previously received live inputs of Kaveri Chicks and Khaki Campbell ducklings from ICAR-IVRI, ERS, Kolkata on 6th of November.
Input Distribution Program: Four thousand kilogram (4000 Kg) of poultry feed was distributed among the beneficiaries (n=92). In another program, fifty four (n=54) beneficiaries belonging to various future cluster groups were participated. They came from 4 different villages and received seasonal vegetable seeds for kitchen gardening to cater the domestic need of vegetables for family consumption and integrate residues from the produce as food material for LIT variety of poultry in their backyard. The produce of poultry farm manure is to be used reversibly for growing the vegetables in backyard.
Follow up through organizing Gosthi: During gosthi, the performance of rearing chicks was evaluated based on the survivability of the input (i.e. Kaveri chicks) that the beneficiary received from ICAR-IVRI-ERS on 6th November, 2024. Further, types of problems they are facing during farming also asked at the time interaction in gosthi. Because of the poor performance in rearing the chicks, 6 beneficiaries were kept aside from the two groups.
Re-filling of Medicine Bank: A village level Veterinary Medicine Bank was established in Balaramapur village on 14th October, 2024 which is routinely monitored over telephonic conversation. The amount of medicines and feed supplements which was used by the DAPSC group beneficiaries was replenished on the same day.
