Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana

The Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is a flagship initiative launched by the Government of India to provide financial support to small and marginal farmers across the country. The scheme aims to ensure income security for farmers and alleviate their financial distress by providing direct income support through cash transfers.

Under the scheme, eligible farmers receive an annual income support of Rs. 6,000 in three equal instalments of Rs. 2,000 each. The financial assistance is provided to farmers who own less than 2 hectares of agricultural land and is directly credited to their bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. This ensures transparency and eliminates middlemen, ensuring that the benefits reach the intended beneficiaries.

The Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana has been lauded for its potential to improve the livelihoods of small and marginal farmers who often face challenges such as lack of access to credit, marketing facilities, and resources. By providing them with a regular source of income, the scheme aims to improve their economic well-being and enhance agricultural productivity.

The scheme has been implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and has witnessed widespread participation from farmers across the country. As of now, over 11 crore farmers have been registered under the scheme, and more than Rs. 72,000 crore has been disbursed to them.

In addition to providing financial assistance, the government has also taken several other measures to support farmers, including initiatives to improve agricultural productivity, enhance crop insurance coverage, and promote sustainable farming practices. These efforts are aimed at ensuring the welfare and prosperity of farmers and strengthening the agriculture sector in the country.

Overall, the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana has emerged as a significant step towards securing the livelihoods of small and marginal farmers in India. By providing them with direct income support, the scheme has the potential to transform the lives of farmers and contribute to the growth and development of the agriculture sector in the country.
