Controlling fungal infection in mango flower

Mango is a popular and delicious fruit that is grown in many parts of the world. Though mangoes are generally easy to grow, they can be affected by fungal infections, especially during flowering. These infections can cause browning of the flowers, premature falling of the fruits, and a decrease in yield. But, don’t fret – there are several ways to control fungal infections in mango flowers.

1. Prune and Remove Infected Parts: Pruning infected branches, leaves, and flowers regularly can prevent fungal spores from spreading to other healthy parts of the plant. Infected flowers should be plucked and destroyed immediately.

2. Improve Air Circulation: Fungi thrive in humid environments. So, providing proper air circulation can help keep the moisture levels low, reducing the risk of fungal infections. Trim tree branches and remove excess foliage to allow for better airflow.

3. Use Fungicides: Several types of fungicides are available in the market that can be used to control fungal infections in mangoes. Some of the commonly used fungicides are copper oxychloride, carbendazim, and mancozeb. These fungicides should be used as per the recommended dosage and application method to avoid any adverse effects to the plant.

4. Neem Leaf Extract: Neem leaf extract is an effective natural remedy for fungal infections. It has antifungal properties that can help control the spread of the fungus. To prepare the extract, soak fresh neem leaves overnight in water and strain the liquid. Spray the solution on the mango trees once a week.

5. Organic Compost: Applying organic compost to the soil around the mango tree can improve the soil’s health and increase the plant’s immunity. Healthy plants can fight off infections better. Additionally, compost can also help retain moisture, reducing the stress on the plant.

In conclusion, controlling fungal infection requires a combination of methods like regular pruning, improving air circulation, applying fungicides, use of natural remedies, and using organic products. It’s important to identify the type of fungi and act timely and accordingly to control its spread, thereby ensuring healthy mango yield.
